Martyna's Statment

The following text was part of a performance I did during the exam I had to take in spring.

First, I was standing very far away from the people on the panel.
Each time I said "I believe," I made a step toward them.
Each time I said "I don't believe," I made a step back from them.
At the end I was standing very close to them:

I believe in encounters
I don't believe in answers
I believe in conversation
I believe in the necessity of rituals
I believe in the possibility of changing rules
I don't believe in artist statements
I believe in provisional categories
I don't believe in cynicism
I believe in empathy
I don't believe in the single image
I believe in montage
I believe in frustration
I don't believe in indifference
I don't believe in theory
I believe in fiction
I don't believe in illusion
I believe in story-telling
I believe in conflict
I don't believe in confrontation
I believe in turning points

I believe in jump cuts
I don't believe in deadlines
I believe in immortality
I don't believe in perfection

I believe in speaking with many voices.
I don't believe in translation
I believe in adaptation.
I believe in decision-making
I believe in accountability
I believe in making plans
I believe in doing stuff
I believe in film as an interface for what can not be seen
I don't believe in coherence
